From Object to Portrait exhibition poster

Three travellers were walking through a desert.

One of them asked: “What matters most in life — the journey or the destination?”

The first replied that the journey matters most, because it is the journey that changes us and leads us towards our destination.

The second disagreed. The destination matters most, he said, because each of us chooses our own path towards it.

The third traveller remained silent for a while. Then he looked at his companions and said: “I think what matters most in life is good company.”

This small parable has stayed with me.

I have not been practising photography consciously for very long. During this time there have been journeys and destinations — some reached, others still ahead. But perhaps the most valuable thing I have found along the way is the people who have been beside me: people with whom I could photograph, look, argue, learn, make mistakes, discover something new, and keep moving forward.

So if you ask me today what matters more — the journey or the destination — I would probably agree with the third traveller: What matters most is good company.

“From Object to Portrait” is, in its own way, a story about that journey. The title can contain many things: different genres, subjects, experiments, observations and encounters — everything from which a personal way of seeing gradually develops.

This exhibition is part of my journey.

And I am very glad to share this part of it with you.

Welcome.
