BETWEEN DESERT AND SEA

Egypt here begins neither with the pyramids nor ends at the shore.

It is a place where water meets stone, where the desert begins just beyond the sea, and where the road passes through mountains, sand, towns, and rare traces of human presence.

Lija Mežecka’s photographs form a journey through different states of the same land — from clear water and open horizons to the dry air of the desert, rocky landscapes, and seemingly endless space.

At the heart of the exhibition stands a symbolic image of Egypt — a desert landscape and the pyramids. It is neither a reconstruction nor a decoration. It is a point of reference around which the journey unfolds.

Between Desert and Sea is not only a story about geography. It is a story about transition — between water and land, movement and stillness, the familiar image of Egypt and the Egypt that reveals itself along the way.
